Cloaked in secrecy until the official Hendrick Motorsports unveiling and presentation at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte NC, Axalta Coating Systems finally took the wraps off the striking Brilliant Flames paint scheme on the popular #24 driven by 4-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon.

Now fans at the Expo can take their own personal photos of Gordon’s flamed # 24, as The Canadian Motor Speedway ( CMS ) is proud and privileged to showcase Gordon’s show car for a 4th consecutive year at The Expo, ( CME ) February 7th through the 9th at the International Center Toronto.
Gordon’s NASCAR Sprint Cup show cars at the CMS display are a centerpiece attraction at The Expo, but this year is extra special, as the CMS display will mark the very first time the brand new # 24 Axalta Chevrolet SS 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup paint scheme will be shown in Canada!

The Brilliant Flames paint scheme, designed by renowned artist Sam Bass, marks the 22nd season of an historical partnership between Axalta, Hendrick Motorsports and Gordon.

Axalta describes the new paint scheme as a colourful racing design fitting of a champion, symbolizing longevity, style and fire for the business and for the sport. The base colors contain a unique specialty pigment called Brilliance that reflects a multitude of colors that demonstrates why Axalta color scientists develop coatings designed to superbly protect and enhance.

Fans will also be able to meet John Bickford, the Vice President and General Manager of Jeff Gordon, Inc. at the CMS display. Bickford is the stepfather and the man behind the illustrious career of Jeff Gordon, the 4-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion and designer of Canadian Motor Speedway.  John will be greeting fans at the CMS booth on Friday February 7th and Saturday February 8th.

Canadian Motorsports Expo attendees can also meet The CMS Management Team to view CMS renderings and up-to-date information on the on-site work completed so far, and construction plans for 2014 and 2015. Fans will also be able to obtain information about the hiring process, sponsorship opportunities and CMS community programs.  The CMS team will also be available for business to business discussions to explore partnerships and potential opportunities.

“From the very first year we had Jeff’s car as the cornerstone of our CMS display, it was clear it was one of the key attractions at the Expo. The fan interest in an actual NASCAR Sprint Cup show car, especially  that of a driver as popular as Jeff, really gets the cameras clicking. We are always honoured to have the # 24 with us at the Expo, especially this year with the Canadian debut of the Axalta paint scheme. It’s a natural extension of our working relationship with Jeff, John Bickford and Hendrick Motorsports,” commented Canadian Motor Speedway Partner and Executive Director Azhar Mohammad.

Canadian Motor Speedway Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Abou Taleb is very excited about Gordon’s car showcase. “We are very proud to have Jeff’s brand new car at our Canadian Motor Speedway display at the Expo. The fans know how close we are to Jeff and his work with us at CMS, so it’s wonderful to host the Canadian debut of his new car for the fans after the official launch at Hendrick Motorsports,” Taleb offered.

2013 A Historic Year for CMS

As we prepare to usher in 2014, Canadian Motor Speedway Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Abou Taleb took some time to reflect on 2013 as a critical milestone and an extremely important year in CMS history.
Ground was finally broken in October on the $400 million dollar project after seven years of approval process to get work started on the site in Fort Erie.  “2013 was extremely historic for CMS, and a very long anticipated result. But the Major Investors and Share Holders are very excited and very much delighted! We are ready now to move to the second stage.” Taleb commented.
November saw Phase-One of the development started, the re-construction of Miller Creek. The main flow channel of the creek has been excavated, and the banks of the creek grass hydro-seeded.  With the CMS site locked down for the winter, architectural firms, the best in Canada, to get Jeff Gordon’s design down to formal blueprints, are being interviewed.  Developing a detailed site plan will take approximately three months to reflect the approved zoning bylaw.  The final site plan will be submitted to the Town of Fort Erie in April, with a projected construction start on pre-grading and site alteration work by mid- summer, 2014.
A gala, formal ground breaking is also planned for the summer, involving complex designer Jeff Gordon.  The formal ground breaking will green-flag eighteen months of construction of the sports’ first Carbon Neutral, and Canada’s first world class oval and integrated road course to host a variety of racing platforms, notably stock car and open wheel racing. CMS is scheduled to be race-ready in 2016.
At this festive time of year, Taleb also wanted to relay Season’s Greetings to CMS fans and supporters.
“I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and a wonderful holiday with your family and friends.  We very much look forward to your continuing support and involvement with us! We look forward to seeing you at each and every Canadian Motor Speedway event.” Taleb offered.

CMS Time Line to Hit Critical Dates

Miller Creek, looking east from the middle

Now that heavy equipment has finished work on the first phase of Canadian Motor Speedway ( CMS ) in Fort Erie Ontario, a schedule or time-line for the $400 million dollar project, a “what happens next” path, is being closely followed by developers and engineers.

Phase-One of the development, the re-construction of Miller Creek, began at dawn on Tuesday October 8, 2013, and in just over a month of dawn-to-dusk work,  Aecon Construction bulldozers and earth movers manoeuvred and repositioned well over 200 thousand tons of top soil and clay, taking full advantage of some gorgeous October weather.

November saw the main flow channel of Miller Creek excavation completed, and the banks of the creek grass hydro-seeded. The site will now be secured for the winter, with the planting of trees along the creek set for the spring.

Canadian Motor Speedway Partner and Executive Director Azhar Mohammad, who recently returned from a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series “Chase for the Championship” race, accompanied by CMS CEO Ibrahim Abou Taleb and Chairman Adnan Al Bahar, says just starting work and being able to see dirt move on the ground at the Canadian Motor Speedway site is something that’s resonating across the sport.

Miller Creek – East end of Phase 1, ready for Phase 2.

“Everyone we spoke to knows about CMS! Everybody is talking about the buzz in Canada in the motorsport industry!  Everyone has a detailed understanding of what we’ve gone through the last few years, and now they know the project has finally started.  CMS designer Jeff Gordon has been such a great ambassador for Canadian Motor Speedway”, Mohammad commented.

So what happens next in the CMS time-line? Mohammad says CMS is evaluating architectural firms from the best in Canada, to work with Jeff Gordon’s design, to get it down to formal blueprints.

“We should have an architectural firm selected by mid-February. To develop a detailed site plan will take approximately three months to reflect the approved zoning bylaw.” Mohammad added.  “The design will reflect the .7 mile oval and 2 mile road course with grandstands, as well as the multi-use aspects of the CMS vision… the hockey rink, the concert venue, and infrastructure to support McMaster University and Niagara College. We are looking to submit our final site plan to the Town of Fort Erie in  April , with a projected construction start on pre-grading and site alteration work by mid- summer ”, Mohammad added.

After a small ceremonial ground breaking on site involving CMS top executives, Mohammad says they still plan a major, formal ground breaking in the spring of 2014.

“We really want the CMS fans and the public to be part of the celebration! We are definitely planning a memorable event that will involve Jeff Gordon, who will address the fans to thank them for their loyal support on what will be a very special day!”, Mohammad continued.

The formal ground breaking will green-flag eighteen months of construction of the sports’ first Carbon Neutral, and Canada’s first world class oval and integrated road course hosting a variety of racing platforms, notably stock car and open wheel racing, which is slated to be race-ready in 2016.

A Canadian Motor Speedway Milestone Reached as Heavy Equipment Finally Rolls into Fort Erie

Canadian Motor Speedway (CMS) is extremely proud and delighted to officially announce a truly historic moment in CMS history and a new era in Canadian Motorsport.

After seven years of government regulatory and developmental process, heavy excavation equipment is making its way to the CMS site in Fort Erie Ontario, to commence Phase-One of the project, the relocation and major environmental enhancement of Miller Creek. This is a critical step to allow for the second phase of the project to proceed, that being construction of the grandstands, the oval track, and the road course.

Canadian Motor Speedway Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Abou Taleb said: “We are making history in Canada and North America for the motorsport fan with this track. It has been a very, very long journey, but now we have a wonderful journey ahead of us. For the Town of Fort Erie, this is a new era.  CMS is the hub, but around it you have hospitality, retail, and research and development that is like a city in itself. CMS will be an attraction that will bring tremendous value to the Town of Fort Erie and the Province of Ontario.”

For CMS Partner and Executive Director Azhar Mohammad, it’s like a dream come true: “We are ecstatic. If you look at the efforts that have been expended and the milestones we’ve achieved after so many years with extensive support from the community, this is truly exciting for our entire team and partners in Kuwait and The U.A.E.”

Designer of the oval track portion of the CMS project, 4-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon is thrilled: “We have cleared a lot of hurdles along the way. We’ve had to be very patient during the entire process, but I’m excited for Canada, I’m excited for auto racing. CMS will definitely be Canadian pride at its best. It’s a Canadian speedway built by Canadians, just 45 minutes from Toronto, 15 minutes from Buffalo, 15 minutes from Niagara Falls. I think Canadians are going to be very proud to have a 1.2 kilometer, three-quarter-mile track that’s going to put on some great racing once it’s completed.”

The core property for the oval, the grandstands and the road course is in CMS hands while work to finalize site planning and the archeological clearances of the periphery properties has been scheduled over the next three months.

Aecon Group Inc., one of Canada’s largest construction companies, is the project’s Construction Manager. They will be responsible for managing the entire 820 acre development, working with local construction resources to ensure CMS is positioned for timely completion, within targeted cost and the highest level of quality and safety.

“We are thrilled to be working with Canadian Motor Speedway and pleased to bring our expertise to the development of this world-class race track,” stated Teri McKibbon, Aecon’s President and Chief Operating Officer.

CMS plans a formal ground-breaking in late spring of 2014 to green-flag eighteen months of construction of the sports’ first Carbon Neutral, and Canada’s first world-class oval and integrated road course to host a variety of racing platforms, notably stock car and open wheel racing, which is slated to be race-ready in 2016.

OMB waves green flag for CMS

Developers of the Canadian Motor Speedway (CMS) project in Fort Erie, Ontario are delighted to announce The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) has given the green flag for the historic racing and entertainment complex to finally proceed.

The OMB had initially approved CMS close to a year ago, however an additional appeal hearing last year to review the disqualification of an appellant’s witness put CMS on hold. That appeal has now been dismissed removing the most difficult aspect of the approval process for the motor-tainment complex.

CMS will now enter the final detailed site plan approval phase after waiting more than six years after the complex was first proposed for the east side of the Queen Elizabeth Highway, between Gilmore and Bowen Roads in the Town of Fort Erie.

While CMS works with Fort Erie on final site plan approval, investors are evaluating an appropriate time to stage a ground breaking, with a target to complete the facility by the third quarter of 2015.

ABOUT THE ONTARIO MUNICIPAL BOARD (OMB): The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) is a Provincial institution which hears applications and appeals in relation to a range of municipal planning, financial and land matters including official plans, zoning by-laws, subdivision plans, consents and minor variances, land compensation, development charges, electoral ward boundaries, municipal finance, aggregate resources and other issues assigned to the Board by numerous Ontario statutes.

The Canadian Motor Speedway (CMS) is pleased to announce its strategic partnership with Aecon Group Inc., one of Canada’s largest publicly traded construction companies.  The project’s Executive Director & Partner Azhar Mohammad, and Aecon’s Chief Operating Officer Teri McKibbon announced the strategic partnership as a result of Aecon’s ongoing support and involvement with CMS since early 2010.

“We look forward to working with Aecon as a partner, to ensure our development is built to the highest standards,” said Mr. Mohammad.

Aecon, as the project’s Construction Manager will oversee the entire 820 acre development by providing the CMS Investor Group with identification and qualification of local construction resources, administration of construction program activities, and management of contractors to ensure CMS is positioned for timely completion, within targeted cost, and with the highest level of quality and safety.

“We are thrilled to be working with Canadian Motor Speedway and pleased to bring our expertise to the development of this world class race track,” said Teri McKibbon, Aecon’s Chief Operating Officer.
