Canadian Motor Speedway has been proud to present a Hendrick Motorsports #24 car for seven years at Motorama (and the CME) and was most proud to have Jeff Gordon’s 93rd and final NASCAR Cup winning car in last year’s display. Since Jeff’s Martinsville win car straight from victory lane would be near impossible to top, we went in another direction for Motorama 2017.
Our friends at AECON brought in one of their new Bulldozers for us to decal and display…to set the tone for 2017. IBI Group and EllisDon were also featured in our display this year with a new construction visualization video and a 3D model of CMS complete with lights and 3D printed cars.
Niagara College’s Motive Power department was an exhibitor with CMS at Motorama, showcasing their research & innovation, automotive programs and discussing their new Green Automotive program.
Continuing a very popular tradition, attendees were able to speak with Mr. John Bickford. Bickford is the stepfather and the man behind the illustrious career of Jeff Gordon, the designer of Canadian Motor Speedway. John answered questions about Jeff’s career, on and off the track, his involvement in CMS and even autographed a few of Jeff’s books upon request. As an official Canadian retailer of Jeff Gordon’s first ever authorized autobiography, JEFF GORDON: His Dream, Drive & Destiny, CMS has Jeff’s book in Fort Erie office.
Thank you to the show organizers for another successful show – we are already planning for 2018! Thank you also to the attendees who came by to visit our booth. The bulldozer in our display helped us to show that this will be a year for construction to finally begin. We thank our friends and fans for their extensive and amazing patience as we finish off the remaining requirements to get heavy equipment back on the site in Fort Erie.
CMS enjoyed another successful Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo this year in Toronto. After 5 years of bringing a Hendrick Motorsports #24 showcar, this year we had the opportunity to bring a raced NASCAR Sprint Cup race car to Canada for the first time in decades. This wasn’t any race car – it was Jeff Gordon’s #24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy SS – the one Jeff raced to his 93rd and final NASCAR Sprint Cup race win. Complete with confetti, Pepsi-spray and all of the dents and marks from Martinsville Speedway short-track racing, racefans of all genres were impressed to see this legendary race car. A few Jeff Gordon fans were brought to tears by the emotion coming from Jeff’s retirement and seeing his final winning race car that he drove, in person. John Bickford, Jeff’s father, joined us once again in the booth all weekend and we all enjoyed speaking to many racefans.
This year we partnered up with one of our educational partners – Niagara College. Students from The Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre and Applied Research Centre displayed a 3D model of Canadian Motor Speedway as well as their 3D scanning technology. Motive Power Program students from NC’s Rankin Technology Centre were also on hand to show their Hybrid Trainer and discuss programs at NC.
On the HMS hauler’s return trip to North Caroline, our new friend Kenny, drove the transporter through Fort Erie and made a pit-stop at the future CMS site, on Sunset Drive – Between Bowen Rd and Gilmore Rd, QEW Highway exits. It was very cool to have the first race car on site be Jeff Gordon’s #24 final winning race car.
Jeff Gordon’s Martinsville “Final Season-Final Win” NASCAR Sprint Cup Car Center Attraction in the Canadian Motor Speedway Display at The Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo
Toronto, Ontario // February 1st, 2016
One of the highlights of four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon’s final NASCAR Sprint Cup season last year was his milestone 93rd career series win at Martinsville, Virginia to advance to the final four in The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
To commemorate that win and Gordon’s 23rd and final full-time season of competition, Canadian Motor Speedway (CMS) is extremely proud to present Gordon’s 2015 # 24 AARP Member Advantages Chevy SS that he raced to victory that day as the center-piece of the CMS display at the 2016 edition of the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo.
Motorama will be held at Toronto’s International Centre March 11th, 12th and 13th, and Gordon’s Martinsville-winning car at the CMS display will once again be one of the headline attractions. This will be the 6th time CMS has presented Gordon’s # 24 car, but this year marks a very rare and special occasion where one of Gordon’s actual race-winning cars will be on display in Canada.
Continuing a very popular tradition, fans can once again meet and speak with John Bickford Sr. Bickford, who is the stepfather and the man behind the illustrious career of Gordon, the designer of Canadian Motor Speedway.
“I’m looking forward to attending The Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo, and the opportunity to talk with race fans and supporters of CMS,” said Bickford. “It’s something I look forward to every spring. Each year we strive to bring a unique show car to Motorama. This year, we’ll have Jeff’s 93rd win Martinsville car.”
This year, Niagara College‘s Motive Power Program, Applied Research Centre, and The Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre will be exhibiting their technology together with CMS, showcasing their Hybrid Trainer and a 3D printed model of Canadian Motor Speedway. Fans will be able to see CMS’s motorsports stadium take shape in 3D form with preliminary specifications from our architects, IBI Group.
Motorama attendees can take their photo with the #24 race car in CMS’s ‘Victory Lane’ and also connect with CMS owners and the management team for the latest progress updates and construction plans for the signature speedway designed by Gordon.
“Jeff’s great run last season and his historic win at Martinsville was a moment of tremendous pride for all of us. We are absolutely excited this year to showcase Jeff’s actual winning race car at our display to commemorate and celebrate his stellar racing career. This will truly be a memorable event for the thousands of Jeff Gordon fans that have visited us each year at Motorama,” commented CMS Executive Director and Partner, Azhar Mohammad.
The new Motorama Motorsports Expo & Custom Car Show was held in Toronto at the International Centre March 13-15, 2015. Motorama successfully combined the Canadian Motorsports Expo and the MegaSpeed Custom Car show.
The Canadian Motor Speedway was once again proud to have Jeff Gordon’s #24 Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR Sprint Cup Showcar in our booth along with Jeff’s Step-Father John Bickford.
Thanks to Wayne Toth from Niagara College Motive Power for working the booth with us and for participating in the Motorama Educational Panel. Thanks also to Jeff Uzbalis for helping out in our booth all weekend and for arranging the 3M prize pack.
Thanks to all of those who stopped by and visited and congratulations to Peter, Chris and Celina who won #worththewait contest prizes.
Our CMS booth attracted record crowds at the 2014 Canadian Motorsports Expo in Toronto. Excitement for the track is stronger than ever as fan turnout proved during the exclusive event coined as the official start of the Canadian racing season. CMS has been proud to hold a presence at the CME each year for the past four years, with 2014 being our most successful year-to-date. CMS was proud to feature Jeff Gordon’s new 2014 Chevy SS Axalta NASCAR Sprint Cup show car which created quite a sensation and a steady rush of traffic at our booth. We are grateful to Hendrick Motorsports for allowing CMS to be the first to showcase the #24 Axalta Chevy SS show car in Canada. Also peaking fan interest at the booth was a 3-dimensional computer visualization of the track created by our partners at AECON and aerial images of the work that was completed in Fall of 2013 for the Miller Creek site. Our success this year can also be attributed to Mr. John Bickford Sr.’s attendance at the CME. Mr. Bickford is the Vice-President and General Manager of JEFF GORDON INC., and is also Jeff Gordon’s stepfather. Fans got a real thrill discussing Jeff’s career with him as well as Jeff’s participation in designing the CMS track. Without a doubt, another exciting event for all! Our thanks to the organizers of the CME and Inside Track Magazine for their continued support. The 8th Annual Canadian Motorsports Expo, Powered by Inside Track Motorsport News took place February 7, 8 & 9, 2014 at the International Centre, adjacent to Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Billed as ‘Canada’s Ultimate Racing Show,’ the CME took place just two weeks before the Daytona 500 and also featured appearances by Ryan Newman, Angie & Mike Skinner and Richard Petty ‘The King”.
